The “Join A Weird Trip” graphic originally debuted on the runway for Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 2012 show, sometimes referred to as the “Egyptofunk” collection. Under the creative direction of Nicolas Ghesquière just one season prior to his departure from the French fashion house, this time marked a significant shift for Balenciaga as Ghesquière spent the last fifteen years reviving the brand and solidifying its place as a leader in the design world. For Alexander Wang’s debut collection at Balenciaga, Fall/Winter 2013, he borrowed the graphic and printed it on t-shirts, crewnecks, and bombers. This allowed the print to grow in virality and become heavily associated with the streetwear inspired, off-duty look of the time, famously being worn by celebrities including Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and Robert Pattinson.
